Volkswagen has unveiled its production model, Polo R WRC street car boasting 217 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
The German automaker’s talking point is its 151-mph top speed and the Polo R WRC’s 6.4 second sprint to 62 mph. All those figures make the Polo R WRC the fastest Polo ever produced, and the front-wheel drive hot hatch barely changes from concept to production.
They also put the Polo R ahead of the Fiesta ST (which makes 197 hp), to be the most powerful car in the sub-compact hot hatch segment.

Powered by a 2.0-liter, TSI four-cylinder engine, the Polo R WRC weighs in at less than 3,000 pounds thanks to some rally-inspired lightweight materials. The model was built to aid with the homologation of its rally race car counterpart and will be shifted through a six-speed manual transmission.
The vehicle will be limited to just 2,500 units and will be built in left-hand drive configuration only. Pricing is set at just shy of $44,000 (€33,900), though it’s highly unlikely that it’ll ever see American soil.
