Captain-America-Chevrolet-Camaro

The Barrett-Jackson auction has been selling more than just cars and trucks for awhile now. In the past, virtually everything with an engine or a motor has found its way across the auction block.

For 2014 things are much the same. Obscure items we had no idea still existed will be sold later this month as well as insane mechanical Frankenstein-style creations.  How strange are these auctions items? Here’s a hint; the Captain America Chevrolet Camaro pictured above is going up for auction in Scottsdale this year, but didn’t crack our top ten list. Click on to see what did.

L-19-Bird-Dog-and-Dodge-M37-truck

The Cessna Aircraft Company and Okoboji Classic Cars will be auctioning off a pair of fully restored 1950s military legends. With all proceeds benefiting the Armed Forces Foundation, this truck and airplane combination will be perfect for someone who never grew up and now owns an empty hanger.

1944-GMC-Amphibious-Vehicle-D.U.K.W.

Speaking of ex-military units, here is a fully restored World War II amphibious truck. Designed to transport men or equipment across land and water, these trucks have since found a home in various cities as tour buses. What better way to take the kids to school, run some errands at the mall, take family on a weekend lake cruise or finally scoot up that ‘river-shortcut’ during rush hour traffic?

1978-VOLVO-BERTONE-CUSTOM-2-DOOR-COUPE

And now for something completely different. This car truly is a Frankenstein build. On the outside it is wrapped in a highly modified Volvo body painted with Ford’s “Gotta Have It Green.” Underneath, a Chevrolet LS3 V8 and four-speed automatic transmission are paired up to a Ford nine-inch rear end. Most of the front suspension is custom and the tires in the back are massively at 13 inches a piece.

Want a unique ride? Here it is.

1972-WINNEBAGO-CUSTOM-hotrod-RV

Like the idea behind the Volvo but need something a little more family friendly? How about this Winnebago? Powered by a 318 cubic inch engine, all of the V8 sound and fury is sent through a set of custom headers and Flowmaster exhaust to let passersby know that this is a serious motorhome.

The RV also a features a fully customized front and rear suspension set-up. The builders claim this allows the RV to sit “lower than Winnebago engineers ever dreamed possible, making it handle like no other.” We are not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

CROW-LAKESTER-CUSTOM-ROADSTER

After World War II, Bonneville Salt Flats racers began taking surplus stream line auxiliary fuel tanks off of large military aircraft and turning them into race cars. Featuring a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, this roadster includes many aircraft components into its design to truly be a car/plane racing hybrid.

This Crow Lakester is not only a nicely done, period correct rendition of these cars, but it is also said to be street legal.

2006-MARINE-TECHNOLOGY-MOJO-MIAMI-VICE-BOAT

Got a massive dock and a problem with a local gang running guns and drugs? Have we got a boat for you! Driven by Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell in the 2006 Miami Vice movie, this monster boat features 1,500 hp and a top speed of 120 mph. More impressive though is the custom paint job given to the boat after the movie was done; it is plastered with actual computerized film slides.

The boat also comes with a custom tilt trailer and one-off convertible Hummer H2.

1979-LINCOLN-BATMOBILE-RE-CREATION

This may not be an actual car from the 1966 television series, but it is as close as replicas come. Painstakingly detailed, the Batmobile even includes the flame spitting afterburner in the back.

I dare you to buy this car, drive around in a Batman costume and not have the time of your life. *POW* *BIFF* *BAM*

1989-WARNER-BROTHERS-BAT-MOBILE

If tribute cars aren’t your thing, how about the real deal? As one of two exhibition cars created for Warner Brothers, this is a fully function vehicle. With only five of these Batmobiles ever created by W.B., this car is as rare as it is incredibly cool.

This car may not be street legal, but seriously… Who would Batman pull over?

1959-BMW-Isetta-Whatta-Drag

Steve Urkel  never drove anything like this. Based on the Hot Wheels “Whatta Drag” toy car from 1998, this BMW Isetta has undergone a complete transformation. In the back now sits a 502 cubic inch supercharged Chevrolet V8 pumping out 730 hp. In contrast, the Isetta originally came with a 14 cubic-inch one-cylinder engine making less than 10 hp.

Increasing a cars horsepower by 7,684 percent does have some consequences and the auction posting states “it is important to emphasize that this car is strictly for show and not to be used for road or track, the massive amount of torque produced by the Chevrolet 502 engine can be dangerous if driven improperly.”

1865-Gasparini-Gypsy-Queen-Organ

It is not just vehicles sold at Barrett-Jackson, sometimes a truly bizarre item crosses the auction block. Case in point is this two-for-one auction deal. If the thought of owning a turn of the century merry-go-round wasn’t enough, how about one that includes a 150 year old ‘Gypsy Queen’ calliope organ?

This excerpt alone is reason enough to buy the organ: “Folklore goes that the Calliope was used to lure the townsfolk from their homes while other Gypsies lifted what they could from their pockets and their homes without detection. The ‘Gypsy Queen’ even had secret compartments to hide the stolen items in just in case suspicious crowds felt the need to check the Gypsies.”
