GM Restricts Camaro Z/28 Parts to Prevent Cloning

If you’re hoping to transform a traditional Chevrolet Camaro to a Camaro Z/28, think again.

Considering buzz around the Z/28, it’s no surprise that Chevrolet wants to keep the model a collectible. The American automaker is hoping to protect its buyers’ investment by restricting 35 parts from purchase unless you’re a Z/28 owner. That means it will be almost impossible to build a Camaro Z/28 simply by buying parts off the shelf and bolting them onto your existing Camaro.

The restricted parts include brake components such as rotors and calipers, emblems, wheels, fender flares, seats, grille, spoiler, bumpers and more. Naturally, we expect Camaro owners to find a way around the system – such as finding a Z/28 owner to order “spare parts,” but it’s good to know the American automaker is taking the initiative to keep the track-focused Camaro special.
