Details on the four-cylinder engines Porsche is planning for its products are starting to emerge.
The family of new four-cylinder engines will range from 1.6- to 2.5-liter displacements and will use a flat cylinder configuration according to a report from Car. As for power range, expect the 1.6-liter engine to have around 210 hp while the larger 2.0-liter flat-four will sport around 286 hp. The range-topping 2.5-liter engine will churn around 360 hp, more than enough to keep Boxster and Cayman enthusiasts content.

Expected those four-cylinder engines to use turbochargers and direct injection to fuel their performance and torque won’t be lacking either with the 2.0-liter expected to produce 295 lb-ft and the 2.5 liter to sport 347 lb-ft.
It still isn’t clear if the 1.6-liter unit will end up in Porsche a product. It was originally developed to be used in the baby Boxster model, but could now be going on to power various Volkswagen and Audi models within the Volkswagen Group.
