Audi is currently working on a plug-in hybrid version of its updated SUV.

Recently spied testing on the Nürburgring, the Audi Q7 plug-in hybrid was spotted not only with high-voltage decals on the side of the prototype, but the additional fuel cap for the charger socket. It’s currently unclear which plug-in hybrid powertrain the German automaker will use on the Q7, but it is likely based on an existing Porsche system.

Porsche has added the Cayenne S E-Hybrid to its lineup which features a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 paired to an electric motor with 95 hp. The total system output in the Cayenne S E-Hybrid is 333 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque, so expect the Audi Q7 to have similar specifications. The updated Q7 is due next year and the plug-in hybrid variant should be part of the lineup from the start.
