Volkswagen’s premium sedan will make a return to the U.S. in style.

According to a recent report, the Phaeton will be offered with a variety of powertrains including a turbo-diesel engine and a plug-in hybrid variant. Expected to arrive in the U.S. as a 2018 or 2019 model year, the second-generation Volkswagen Phaeton will be powered by a V8 TDI with around 450 hp as well as a V6 gasoline plug-in hybrid powertrain with over 400 hp. The company will also offer a top-of-the-line W12 option but that is unlikely to make its way to America.

Expect the Volkswagen Phaeton to be priced at around $70,000 when it returns in a few years. The German automaker is enjoying success with the current Phaeton in China, which is a reason why Volkswagen is taking its time to replace the aging sedan. The model was available in the U.S. but cancelled in 2006 following poor sales.
