You’re not the only one if you think the majority of BMW models are starting to look too much alike.

The German automaker plans on differentiating the styling of its next-generation 1, 3, 5 and 7 Series models by evolving its design language. Karim Habib, BMW brand design director, acknowledges that the models need to “maintain exclusivity, and if anything we will make them more separate.” In addition, Habib said the automaker plans to use new headlight technology to give each of its sedan models an individual front-end graphic to accompany the trademark kidney grilles.

Currently, BMW’s models have their styling developed to give it a distinct identity, a trend that started in the late 1990s under Chris Bangle after the German automaker was criticized for simply making small, medium and large variants of the same car.
