The number of claims officially approved for payout by General Motors’ compensation fund continues to climb.
As of Friday, October 24, the independently managed fund approved 61 claims split between 31 related to injuries and 30 to deaths. General Motors appointed mediation expert Ken Feinberg to oversee the payout claims, of which there were 1,580 filed between August 1 when the fund began accepting applications and the end of last week according to the Detroit News.
The fund will stop accepting applications on December 31, but will continue reviewing the applications it receives during the five-month period. Roughly 100 claims have already been declared ineligible for payout while the majority remain under review.
So far 21 cases have accepted offers from the compensation fund out of a total 31 that the fund made offers to so far.
