Porsche is working to bring out a new version of its lighter, faster Boxster.

The company confirmed as much during its annual media and investor conference, when VW Group CEO Martin Winterkorn listed all of the new products that are coming to the market this year, including the Boxster Spyder.

Power is expected to come from the same 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that is found in the new Porsche Cayman GT4, where it makes 385 hp. There is also a possibility that the car will use a turbocharged four-cylinder that is said to be coming to Porsche’s smallest sports cars.

Weight loss thanks to the removal of all non-essential items is in store for this car along with special suspension tuning to make sure it handles at the race track. The previous Boxster Spyder shed 176 lbs. compared to the standard car thanks to aluminum parts, the deletion of the radio and A/C and a unique two piece manual softtop.

If the new car is anything like the original Boxster Spyder, unique styling will also be applied to the car to set it apart from the Boxster range.
