General Motors has announced its largest single recall of 2015 so far.
The company is calling back 469,000 Chevy Malibu sedans from the 2011 and 2012 model year over issues with the seat belts. In the affected vehicles, the flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the vehicle can become worn out over time due to passengers moving in their seats, eventually leading to separation of the seat belt from the car.

To fix the issue, dealers will replace the outboard lap mounting bracket and relocate the tensioner slightly to the rear. The cable will also be inspected by dealers, who will replace the lap pretensioner if necessary. Chevy knows of about 36 cases related to the problem along with one minor injury, which occured when a taxi driver bumped his head. In May of 2014, about 1.51 million vehicles, including the 2009-2014 Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia were recalled for the same issue.
GM is also calling back 53,000 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize trucks to repair seat frame hooks that weren’t installed properly during assembly. Dealers will inspect seats and replace the hooks if necessary.
