Ford isn’t the only automaker experimenting with electroluminescent finishes.
Lexus Australia has teamed up with Tricky Jigsaw, M&C Saatchi Australia’s creative tech division, to create a one-of-a-kind Lexus RC F that has a heartbeat. No seriously, the paint on this Lexus RC F moves in time with a driver’s pulse, thanks to electroluminescent paint from Ohio-based Lumilor. The coat of paint is integrated with an electronics setup that feeds data through a collection of sensors attached to the driver.

According to Ben Cooper, Group Innovation Director of Tricky Jigsaw, the goal of the Lexus RC F project was to develop “a car that’s connected to the driver and displays their heartbeat in real-time. Bringing the thrill of driving the Lexus RC F to life.”
The concept took about six months to build and has other possible applications like developing a vehicle that could potentially understand a driver’s biometric outputs. For example, a car could possibly temper road rage or recognize a tired driver by mapping biometric signals with telematric data.
