The 2011-2013 Kia Sorento is being recalled for a transmission glitch.

According to the recall notice, the affected Kia Sorento crossovers can unexpectedly roll while parked if the gearshift lever is pressed with too much force, resulting in a chip or crack to the break-shift interlock. As a result, that could cause the transmission to unintentionally shift out of park, even if the brakes are not pressed. The Korean automaker said three injuries, 54 warranty claims and 14 customer complaints have been related to the recall.

The company’s regulatory team began investigating the issue in August following a copy of a letter from an attorney alleging his client’s son climbed into a 2011 Kia Sorento and shifted the crossover out of park, despite not engaging the brakes or putting a key in the ignition.

Recall notices will be sent out starting November 24 and dealerships will replace the faulty brake-shift interlock with new parts for free.
