BMW is previewing the upcoming X2 compact crossover with a concept at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
Despite spy photographers catching what we believe is the BMW X2 testing in recent months, the automaker has opted to show off a concept of their upcoming new addition to the compact luxury crossover segment.
Boasting what it calls a “distinctive design that stands apart from that of the other X models,” the Concept X2 is highlighted by large 21-inch wheels, a long wheelbase, stretched roofline, short overhangs and a heavily forward-slanting C-pillar, all contributing to the body having a sporty, low-to-the-road feel. Helping make the concept look slimmer from the side, BMW uses darker cladding in sharp contrast to the Luminous Red paint job for dramatic effect.

Up front, the BMW Concept X2 has a familiar design with the front apron dominated by a large center air intake found below the kidney grille. The rounded-off design in the rear also features dark cladding below the rear apron, giving it a slimmer look.
2016 Paris Motor Show Coverage
Like the existing BMW X4 and X6 models, the X2 features a coupe-like appearance, but will ride on a front-wheel-drive platform like the BMW X1. Expect it to also be offered with the German automaker’s xDrive all-wheel-drive.
“The BMW Concept X2 combines the fast-moving body language and low-slung proportions of a coupe with the robust construction of an X model,” said Karim Habib, head of BMW Design. “This is a sporty vehicle with a bold character, and it allows us to open up some fascinating new design possibilities for the BMW brand.”
