Volvo’s Chinese owners have their eyes set on acquiring even more automakers.
Road & Track reports that Geely is interested in acquiring Lotus from current owner Proton, as the Chinese automaker looks to continue purchasing other automotive companies. Geely also recently launched a new brand called Lynk & Co, with a focus of ride sharing and technology, using a compact platform developed jointly with Volvo.

Helping add fuel to the fire, Geely previously acquired The London Taxi Company, so it already has a presence in the U.K., which means adding Lotus to its portfolio makes sense. The Chinese automaker also has the finances to help Lotus continue building lightweight sports cars for a niche market, while it gives the Chinese company access to additional new technologies.
