We now have our first look at the Williams Mercedes FW40.

Formula 1 is going to look quite different this season, with the series introducing several changes to car design. Williams is the first race team to show off its revamped car, revealing the longer and wider design. There’s also larger front and rear spoilers and overall more bodywork area than before. Combined with fewer restrictions on the shapes of individual body components, this year’s Formula 1 cars are expected to be more aerodynamic.

The new rules also include new tires from Pirelli, and like the bodies of the car, the wires are much wider. The tire manufacturer was tasked with creating a setup that would not permanently lose its maximum grip after being exposed to a certain amount of heat.

The cars are expected to get faster this season with the changes, even though the series will stick with the current hybrid powertrains introduced in 2014. The Williams FW40 will continue to use powertrain supplied by Mercedes-Benz.
