bmw heroes of bavaria exhibition

The LeMay, America’s Car Museum, is hosting a special “Heroes of Bavaria” exhibition on the evening of May 12.

The museum is working with BMW Car Club of America and BMW of North America to show off 75 years of BMW Motorsports, with 17 of the German automaker’s most iconic race cars from private collectors and the BMWUSA Classic Collection making an appearance. The exhibition was the brainchild of the BMW CCA Foundation last year and proved to be a popular exhibit for BMW Club members and fans. Now, fans on the west coast get to enjoy it at America’s Car Museum (ACM).

Vehicles in the exhibition include the 1937 BMW 328 Roadster, 1961 700 RS (first built 700 RS), 1972 3.0 CSL Group 2 Rally car, and several M3 race cars from throughout BMW history.

The grand opening celebration will take place on the evening of May 12 and as part of the festivities, ACM Master Collector Peter Gleason will moderate a live discussion that will include notable BMW figures such as Bill Auberlen, Erik Wensberg, and Thomas Plucinsky. Auberlen is the winningest factory race car driver in BMW history, while Wensberg is the retired motorsport and M brand manager for BMW of North America.

Those that can’t make it to the opening night can enjoy an exclusive early Curator Talk & Tour on the morning of May 13, led by ACM Curator of Exhibitry Scot Keller.

“BMW has been a forward looking company throughout its 100+ year history and the race cars from our past truly exemplify the spirit of innovation and engineering that has made BMW what it is today” said Thomas Plucinsky, head, BMW Group Product Communications and head of BMWUSA Classic. “We are happy to share eight of our best BMWUSA Classic Collection race cars with visitors to the Heroes of Bavaria exhibit at the LeMay.”
