Now that the warmer weather is here, it’s time to shake off the dirt and grime of winter and let your car shine. And just like a bikini wax, there’s nothing like a good wax to make your vehicle look its best.
Depending on what type of wax you use, it can be done on a regular basis (check the instructions for specific details). We’ve put together a few handy tips that will have you waxing like a pro. But please only try these on your car – we don’t want to hear your personal grooming horror stories.
- Park your car in a shady spot or during the early morning or evening, when it’s not too hot or cold out.
- Give your car a good scrub and dry it off before you break out the wax.
- Read the label. Some waxes may contain abrasives that can scratch clear-coat and lacquer finishes, and dull dark-colored paint jobs. When shopping for a wax, go with a nonabrasive one.
- Take a damp wax sponge and dip it into the car wax – just a dab will do. Just like in “Karate Kid,” rub the wax in small circles while making sure not to get any into the seams and jambs.
- Don’t take on too much at once. Take it small section until you cover the car’s surface. Once you’ve finished, the wax will be ready to be taken off.
- To take it off, use a soft terry cloth towel to wipe off the wax, from the starting point of where you first put it on.
- Get into your work, lean down close to your car to make sure you didn’t miss any sports. Then, polish the entire car with a cloth diaper or cheesecloth.
- It’s important to wash the used towels, cloths and pads. Use liquid fabric softener to keep them from scratching your car the next time you wax.
