You can’t buy it yet, but the all-new 2013 Ford Fusion is starting to seep into dealer inventory listings and because of that, we can confirm that you will be able to buy one as early as September 3.
York Ford, a dealership in Massachusetts, has three Fusions listed on its site and confirmed that at least one of them would be for sale at that date. Ford’s consumer site has yet to release that information, so it isn’t clear if other dealers will receive their allotment before the store we spoke with.
Regardless, the automaker is likely to start slashing prices on the soon-to-be outdated 2012 model as its handsome successor approaches. With a starting MSRP of $22,495 for the Fusion S, customers will already be paying close to a $2,000 premium for the new car.
Along with its genteel appearance, the new car is going to offer better fuel economy, but that efficiency comes with a lot of sacrificed power. At it’s most powerful, the 2012 armed with a 3.5-liter V6 offers 263 hp whereas the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine for 2013 only offers 237.
There are still plenty of 2012 models sitting on dealer lots, and it’s standard practice for Ford to offer discounts on those models when the next year is available, based on the ratio of new to old cars. This all boils down to the fact that anyone thinking of buying a Fusion should wait until late August when the company is sure to feel more pressured than is does now.
