Chevy is recalling about 4,716 Sonic compacts, built between May 29, 2012, and August 29, 2012 for a faulty diagnostic reporting system.
In the case of the turn signals not operating, the body control module (BCM) will not detect the fault, leaving the driver unaware that it is occurring. Because of this, the Sonic fails to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
This is the second Sonic recall recently, the other being for a bad washer fluid hose.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the vehicles BCM and key Fob free of charge. The recall is scheduled to begin on October 3, 2012.
