Octane Management, the company that promoted NASCAR in Montreal for the last six years, has ended its relationship with the race series, eliminating the chance for a 2013 season in Canada.
The move even surprised NASCAR, as the company continues to struggle financially after filing for bankruptcy with a reported $5 million debt.
Given that it stands in NASCAR’s best interests to re-establish races in Canada, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a replacement announced quickly. Mosport International Raceway in Toronto, now called Canadian Tire Motorsports Park could act as a potential replacement venue.
“NASCAR appreciates the support and enthusiasm the great fans of Montreal have shown during our six years of exciting racing at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. It’s been a great run for the NASCAR Nationwide Series at this historic venue,” NASCAR said.
