Cadillac had just released a staged spy photo of its new gasoline range-extended electric car, which will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week.
Taken while undergoing testing in Southern California, the car will hit production branded as the ELR and make use of technology developed for the Chevrolet Volt. Like in the Volt, power will come from an electric motor and battery pack, with a gasoline engine used to charge the batteries.
“Cadillac customers are going to enjoy the unique features ELR will bring to the market,” said Cadillac ELR chief engineer Chris Thomason. “We’re going to change the way people think about luxury and electrification.”
