A Mercedes-Benz exec has announced that a S500 plug-in hybrid variant will join the new S-Class range and will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.
The Mercedes S500 plug-in hybrid was confirmed by David McCarthy, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at Mercedes-Benz Australia, though the automaker didn’t specify if it’ll be a global model and when it’ll be available.

The German automaker also didn’t reveal any specifics on the vehicle’s powertrain but the S500 plug-in is expected to have a standard gasoline V6 paired to an electric motor that will provide around a 20-mile electric-only range. Mercedes did confirm that it will emit less than 75 grams of CO2 per kilometer, which equates to roughly around 72 mpg.
The S500 plug-in hybrid is expected to go on sale during the third quarter of 2014.
