Hyundai proved that cheaper can be better when it introduced the Veloster Turbo R-Spec at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Korean automaker is calling the Veloster Turbo R-Spec model a “reverse halo” car, hoping to attract a new generation of enthusiasts to the brand. The Veloster Turbo R-Spec gets rid of all the luxury amenities and in exchange, gives it a B&M short shifter, higher spring rates, a stiffer transmission mount and a sportier steering map.

The Veloster Turbo R-Spec’s performance remains unchanged however, with the 1.6-liter turbo engine providing 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. But the R-Spec does go on a slight diet, weighing in at 2,800 lbs but its price tag of $22,110 (including destination) is what will surely be its selling point.
