2009-Hyundai-Elantra-Touring

A call back that affected more than 186,000 Hyundai Elantras last March could expand by about another 52,000 units.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that it opened a recall query today related to Elantra Touring models from 2009 to 2012 because the airbags could cause injury during a side-impact crash. A metal support bracket attached to the headliner could be launched at vehicle occupants if the side curtain airbag is deployed.

In a complain related to the previous recall, someone who filed a complaint said the bracket sliced their ear in half.

NHTSA said it hasn’t received complaints or reports of injuries related to the previous recall from the latest group of Elantras.
