Just how serious is Apple about getting into the automotive industry? Its head of mergers and acquisitions met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk last spring.
A recent report states Apple’s Adrian Perica met with Elon Musk while Apple CEO Tim Cook was “probably” also present at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California in spring of 2013. While such a meeting simply only leads to speculation, it did involve the top dealmakers for both companies and suggests that Apple is very much interested in acquiring the American automaker.

Last year, an analyst suggested to Apple that it should consider buying Tesla in an open letter to Cook and board director Al Gore. Apparently that letter however, was written six months prior to the supposed meeting between the two companies.
Reports in the past showed that Apple China had once looked for an automotive engineer, and the company admitted in 2012 that it once considered developing its own cars before it entered the world of smartphones.
