Subaru is planning a successor for its Tribeca model that will boast a world’s first powertrain.
According to a new report, the next-generation Tribeca will be heavily influenced by the Viziv 2 Concept and will sport a new name in order to distance itself from the current model. Inside sources are saying that the Viziv 2 Concept accurately previews the design direction for a bigger SUV model from Subaru, but it’s the powertrain that will make headlines.

Borrowing the 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine (148 hp, 258 lb-ft of torque) found in the Outback and the Forester, Subaru will mate it to a Toyota-sourced hybrid system to create the world’s first turbo-diesel boxer plug-in hybrid powertrain. Of course these are just rumors as they stand, so they should be taken lightly, but if all goes well, we could expect to see Subaru’s new SUV in 2017
