BMW’s new X4 Sport Activity Coupe debuted in New York, showing the world a slightly sexier looking compact crossover.

Looking like a smaller version of the BMW X6, this new X4 is actually based on the X3, and uses the same gasoling engine options. Base models use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 240 hp, while upgraded models sport a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that makes 300 hp. Both engines are paired with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

While the X4 starts at $45,625 (including destination) it may be hard to refrain from ticking a few option boxes and packages, like the performance oriented M Sport package, which tightens up the suspension.

Expect the X4 to arrive in US showrooms in Spring.
