Subaru WRX hatchback enthusiasts might want to hold their breath for a little longer.
The launch of the all-new 2015 Subaru WRX noticeably had a hatchback variant missing from the lineup, but the Japanese automaker hasn’t shut the door on the model completely. According to WRX Project General Manager, Masuo Takatsu, Subaru is still considering a five-door hatch body style for the WRX. Takatsu admitted that strong demand from the U.S. market has Subaru considering the hatch model, which accounted for half of the previous-generation’s sales.

North America is the world’s largest WRX market, so it’s understandable that Subaru’s main target is the U.S. and its consumers with the new sports sedan. Following North America, the largest WRX markets are Japan and Australia.
