The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has come up with an official fuel economy rating for the 2015 BMW X3 XDrive 28d which offers significant gains over its gas-powered counterpart.
Its rated at 27 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway for a combined 30 mpg, a full 6 mpg combined better than the X3 XDrive28i. When it comes to the competition, the BMW beats its closest competitor, the Mercedes GLK250 Bluetec diesel, by 2 mpg combined.

A base 2015 BMW X3 will sell for $39,325, while the diesel model commands a $42,825 price tag. For that price bump, you will get 6 more miles per gallon, along with 20 extra lb-ft of torque compared to the gas-powered model, as the 2.0-liter diesel makes 180 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.
