Bugatti is developing a replacement to its Veyron supercar that it is expected to show for the first time in 2016.
The yet-unnamed exotic will be displayed that year during a major auto show before going on sale a year later according to a new report by AutoCar. A 16-cylinder engine evolved from the current 8.0-liter mill, but mated in the future model to a hybrid powertrain and updated with direct injection and possibly electric turbocharging. The new powertrain will supposedly develop 1,479 hp, which would mark a substantial increase over the Veyron Super Sport’s 1,183 hp output. Perhaps more impressively, AutoCar claims the system will create up to 1,100 lb-ft of torque and offer a 0-60 launch in 2.5 seconds.

Bugatti is reportedly planning to use a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that will direct power to all four wheels. A carbon fiber monocoque chassis will be necessary to offset the added powertrain weight as part of an effort to achieve a 286 mph top speed.
Earlier this week, reports of American hypercar builder Hennessey readying something called the Venom F5, which is aiming for a mind-bending 290 mph top speed surfaced. That car will use a 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that is supposed to generate up to 1,400 hp.
