Porsche is building a version of the 981 Boxster that will make 211 hp as well as a Cayman with the same minimized output.

Rather than using a smaller engine, the models will have the same 2.7-liter boxer six-cylinder engine as the normal Boxster pictured here (rather than the 3.4-liter engine in the S and GTS variants), but de-tuned by 54 hp. Porsche’s retail sites in Belgium and Norway are advertising the models that our Porsche source says will likely remain restricted to select European markets.

With the less potent flat six mill, the cars will take longer to reach 62 mph (100 km/h). The Boxster 211 will reach that speed in between 6.1 and 6.4 seconds or a little more than half a second slower than the normal Boxster. The Cayman is supposed to perform the run in 6.2 seconds rather than the 5.4- to 5.7-second range for the normal-spec Cayman.

Emissions and fuel consumption are both reduced compared to the Boxster and Cayman as are the prices. Porsche is offering the Boxster 211 at a discount of roughly $10,000 in Norway, but in Belgium they are being offered for the same price as the more powerful models.
