Bugatti’s follow up to the Veyron is shaping up to be an insane hypercar.

Called the Chiron, the new coupe from Bugatti will use the same 8.0-liter W16 engine as the previous car, but the new engine will incorporate direct injection along with two electric-powered turbos, boosting the output to around 1,500 hp. Thanks to those quick spooling turbos, torque should be abundant at low rpms, while it will likely peak around 1,100 lb-ft. There will also be two traditional turbochargers, keeping the total at four just like the current Veyron.

Power will be sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to all four wheels. This should allow the Chiron to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds, while the car will top out at 288 mph, making it 18 mph faster than the Veyron Super Sport.

On the inside, the Chiron is expected to correct many of Veyron’s issues, like the offset driving position, bad visibility, lack of space and strange ergonomics.

Ingress and egress are also expected to be easier on the new car. After a concept drive, VW Chairman Ferdinand Piëch suggested that a section of the door sill be incorporated into the door, to make it simpler to get in to. Whether or not this suggested fix will make it to production is unknown.

Although the Chiron was supposed to arrive in 2015, the car’s launch has already been pushed back to 2016.
