At this point, Apple buying Tesla is nothing more than a rumor, but it turns out many at the tech giant want it to happen.
At the annual shareholders meeting, investors pushed Apple CEO Tim Cook on the topic of buying the electric car manufacturer. “We don’t really have a relationship with them,” Cook said. “I’d love Tesla to pick up CarPlay. We now have every major auto brand committing to use CarPlay, and maybe Tesla would want to do that.”

Cook went on to admit that he was avoiding the question. The notion of Apple buying Tesla isn’t a completely unfounded idea, as Apple’s merger and acquisitions head Adrian Perica has apparently approached Tesla CEO Elon Musk in the past, though Musk wouldn’t say how interested the company was.
One shareholder who spoke at the meeting compared the day he reserved the first 1984 Mac computer to the day he bought his Tesla Model S, trying to equate the two companies. “Let me think if there’s another way for me to not answer this question,” Cook said in response while smiling. “We’re very focused on CarPlay.”
Many other similarities have been drawn between the two companies. Both joined industries late in the game but managed to create a disruptive product and gain cult followings.
