The Chevrolet Volt is being recalled for a possible carbon monoxide risk.
The recall affects about 64,000 units from the 2011-2013 model years and the American automaker is aware of two injuries that occured due to carbon monoxide exposure. Affected vehicles will get a software update that will limit how long the car can be left idling in order to prevent carbon monoxide buildup if the vehicle isn’t shut off. The problem occurs if the driver unintentionally leaves the Volt running while it’s in electric mode, causing the battery to fully drain and the gasoline engine to turn on.

Currently the Volt will emit a warning chime to alert the driver if they exit the vehicle and it hasn’t been turned off. The software fix as a result of the recall will limit the time that the idle Volt can be left in the “on” position.
