The DeltaWing is heading to production for the street.

Ahead of the start for the 12 Hours of Sebring, Don Panoz announced that his company plans to build a production, road-going version of the DeltaWing. Panoz revealed that the production DeltaWing’s narrow-front architecture will be the foundation for a family of road cars. The first model will be a two-seat GT powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with around 350 hp. The company projects that the two-seat model will cost around $60,000.

After that, a four-seat sedan will follow and while details are light, Panoz did share that the mainstream car will have around 100 hp and be priced around $30,000. The 80-year-old veteran in building state-of-the-art race cars said that an independent study showed the preliminary design projects a 42-percent increase in efficiency and the ability to return over 70 mpg on the highway. The road-car chassis will also become the basis for a new DeltaWing GT race car.

For now, it’s unclear if Panoz’s company will sell the cars of it he’ll partner with a manufacturer. The powertrains are also undecided and could either be full-electric, gasoline or hybrid.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story identified the car as the Nissan DeltaWing. Nissan initially sponsored the DeltaWing roadster race car project for eight months, but eventually left the project. The DeltaWing Technology Group is not at all affiliated with Nissan.
