The 2015 Porsche Cayenne SUV can now launch in the “most efficient manner possible” when equipped with the Sport Chrono package.

At least that’s how the German automaker describes its Performance Start feature that is now part of the Sport Chrono package on the 2015 Porsche Cayenne. The technology sounds an awful lot like the launch control system that can send the 911 Turbo to warp speed, but Porsche insists that there are differences. Even if it isn’t quite a full launch-control system, the “performance start” allows the driver to launch the SUV from wide-open throttle. According to Porsche, the feature nicks 0.1 seconds off the 0-60 time and the addition of the feature to the Porsche Cayenne diesel puts it in a small group of diesel vehicles with the same technology.

If you’re wondering how the Performance Start system works, it’s simple. After activating the system by pushing the Sport Plus button on the center console, the driver can then push down on the brake pedal while putting their foot on the gas pedal. The dash will then indicate when Performance Start has kicked in and within two seconds, the driver can side-step the brake pedal while the accelerator is still pushed to launch the Cayenne.
