The GM ignition switch death toll is now officially at 119, significantly more than the original 13 deaths that were linked to the massive recall that affected over 2.6 million vehicles last year.
In total, 243 injury claims have also been approved with 14 for serious or catastrophic injury and the remaining 229 for minor injuries that required hospitalization or outpatient medical treatment within 48 hours of the accident. In charge of the GM compensation fund is Kenneth Feinberg, whose office hopes to complete its reviews of all claims by this summer.

The company has received 4,342 claims related to the ignition switch recall with 3,027 found ineligible and 81 still under review. Another 872 have been classified as “deficient” and claimants still have the opportunity to send in more information and documentation to support their claim. Expect the GM ignition switch death toll to continue to increase as the remaining claims get sorted out.
Models affected by the ignition switch recall include the Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5, Saturn Ion, Chevrolet HHR, Pontiac Pursuit, Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky.
