Volkswagen is turning its attention to electrified vehicles in wake of its diesel scandal.
At the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, the German automaker rolled out the Tiguan GTE Active concept, a more off-road capable version of the Tiguan GTE concept that debuted at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. As an all-wheel-drive vehicle, the Tiguan GTE Active concept features a turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a pair of electric motors, one on each axle. Total combined system output comes in at 221 horsepower, giving it a 6.4-second zero-to-62 mph time.

The concept is built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform and packs numerous off-road bits including a skid plate, aluminum tow hooks, a roof rack and auxiliary lights.
