Dodge Viper fans are hoping the American sports car legend can reclaim its Nurburgring record.
The last-generation Dodge Viper ACR famously captured the Nurburgring record in stunning style, posting a lap time of 7:12.13, which still makes it one of the fastest production cars in existence to lap the ‘Ring. The Dodge Viper ACR holds 13 lap records on tracks across the U.S., but the American automaker has never attempted an official lap time on the Nurburgring. Now that the model is being discontinued, passionate Viper fans want to see if the Viper ACR can wrangle the record away from the Porsche 918 Spyder that holds a lap time of 6:57.00.
If you’re a skeptic and think there’s probably a good reason why Dodge hasn’t attempted an official Nurburgring run, think again. The current Viper ACR is 1.24 seconds faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder at Laguna Seca, giving Viper fans a hope that it can topple the German automaker’s hypercar at the Nurburgring.

Members of the Viper Owners Association have set up a GoFundMe campaign hoping to raise $159,000 to fund one last official attempt at a record Nurburgring lap. Those funds will send two Viper ACRs to the Nurburgring, as well as cover the costs to rent the track, pay the driver and other expenses. At the time of writing, the campaign was just shy of $47,000. The two Viper ACRs are being provided free of charge by Texas dealer Viper Exchange.
If the funds are raised, look for the attempt to come in April.
