The new Toyota Crown Concept has made its official debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.
The Toyota Crown isn’t sold in North America, but it’s a common sight on Japanese streets. It serves as Toyota’s flagship in its home country, and this concept model previews the styling direction of the next-generation model due early next year.

The Crown Concept rides on Toyota’s TNGA architecture, which is also used in the 2017 Toyota Camry. The platform was honed at the Nurburgring, giving the new Crown responsive handling performance and confidence inspiring driving characteristics, Toyota says.

The Crown Concept also features a Data Communication Module, which can communicate vehicle data to Toyota representatives, allowing them remotely diagnose issues with the vehicle. The automaker says the DCM will come standard on all versions of the production version of the new Crown.
The Toyota Crown should land in Japan by the summer of 2018. It won’t be coming to the U.S. or Canada, but we will get the closely related new Lexus GS over on this side of the world.
