bmw x2 cabriolet render

Rumor has it BMW is strongly considering an X2 Convertible.

According to a report from Spain’s Motor.es earlier this year, BMW conducted a study that found people would be interested in purchasing an X2 Convertible. As a result, the German automaker has decided to explore the idea more in depth and if a business case can be made by the end of a second study, the idea could get green lit.

We’re not entirely sure why automakers are even considering convertible crossovers. The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet wasn’t exactly a hot-seller, although the Range Rover Evoque Convertible hasn’t been too disappointing for Land Rover.

More recently, Volkswagen confirmed it would invest into making a convertible version of the new T-Roc. And while some crossovers wouldn’t look terrible as a convertible, this render shows the X2 would look a bit strange if it decided to chop off its top.

Let’s hope it doesn’t really happen, because the last thing we need are more automakers turning their attention toward convertible crossovers.
