Ford Explorer – Review, Specs, Pricing, Features, Videos and More

The Ford Explorer has been an essential part of the Ford family for over two decades, growing from a boxy, lumbering SUV into the modern, efficient family hauler of today.

Now into its sixth generation, the Explorer is a popular choice among three-row SUVs. And for good reason.

All-new for 2020 (even if it doesn’t look it from the outside) this modern utility vehicle makes big strides in technology to keep modern families happy. From the massive tablet protruding from the dash to the long list of new safety and convenience features, there’s lots here to make your family’s life a lot more convenient.

A focus on fuel economy without sacrificing stretches across the Ford family and the latest Explorer is no different. A new hybrid drivetrain is available for sixth-generation Ford Explorers. What started as a body-on-frame four-door SUV that shared the same platform as the classic Ford Ranger, the Explorer has grown into a unibody SUV with seating up to seven. Powerful, mid-sized, turbocharged engines have replaced the simpler, bigger displacement of past Explorer generations. The current Ford Explorer makes use of a ten-speed automatic transmission and a choice between rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

A notable addition to the 2020 lineup is the new ST model, sporting some handsome accents and a shockingly impressive twin-turbocharged V6 engine that makes 400-hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Who said being a family man (or woman) had to be boring?

The current generation Ford Explorers are made in Chicago, Illinois on Ford’s longest-running assembly line and shipped worldwide.
