New for 2021: General Motors has had quite the start to 2020. Just days after news of the new Hummer broke, the company has unveiled the 2021 GMC Yukon. Based on the recently unveiled Tahoe and Suburban, the Yukon presents a more premium family-hauling alternative compared to the Tahoe and Suburban on which it is based. Aesthetically, the changes are evolutionary rather than revolutionary. It features an even bigger grille flanked by the familiar Yukon LED headlamps which now sport a slightly sharper design.
It shares the powertrains, chassis, suspension and the cabin with the Suburban, which is actually a great thing. It ensures that you now get Air Ride Adaptive suspension along with the magnetic ride and all engine options also available on the Suburban along with the premium GMC badge. The biggest changes, however, are the addition of an off-road AT4 trim along with the addition of the 3.0-liter Duramax Diesel engine and a cabin design that is exclusive to the Denali trim.
In terms of dimensions, the Yukon has grown quite significantly. The regular Yukon is now 6.1 inches longer and features a 4.9-inch longer wheelbase compared to the previous model. It also offers an additional 10 inches of legroom in the third row. The XL, on the other hand, has grown by just 0.9 inches in length but the wheelbase has increased by 4.1 inches freeing up 2.2 inches of extra legroom in the third row.
There is no clarity on the trim and pricing break up of the Yukon yet and according to GMC, the SUV will go on sale only in the summer.
